Meet Dennis
I grew up in Webster City, Iowa, graduated high school in 1964, and entered the USAF at 17. After honorably leaving the Air Force I attended college and received a Political Science degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1973. That same year I married my amazing wife Trish.
The year we moved to Olathe (1977), I joined the Air Force Reserve. I am a Viet Nam Veteran from Active Duty and also deployed short times to many countries while with the Reserves. After thirty-two years of service, I retired in uniform as an SMSgt with the reserves, and WS12 with the Department of the Air Force.
It’s been an honor to represent the people of House 14 the past two years.
I have served on four committees: Veterans, Local Government, Welfare Reform, and Taxation.
I am especially proud of a bill advanced by the Taxation committee that would have eliminated property tax for 100% disabled veterans. The Veterans Committee supported this measure, and I believe we will pass this next year. This would incentivize veterans staying in Kansas.
On the Local Government committee, we wanted to give money to municipalities to build homeless shelters, but the final bill put too many restrictions on local government as to how they used the funds. I hope to be re-elected and have another chance to clean up this bill and make a difference to the unhoused in our area.
I hope to earn your votes and represent you again in Topeka in 2025!
